We both gasp for air / You breathing in the new world around you, me trying to regain strength / We both shed emotion / You shrieking as you find your voice in my arms, me weeping in relief that you are here / We both crawl closer / You leading with your nose up to my chest, me with my lips down to the top of your head / We both then rest / You nuzzled under my neck, me under your steadying rise and fall / And there we both stay, separate but more connected than ever / As we are both newly born / EMMA HEAPHY
